When conducting business, we also take meaningful steps to ensure our processes are efficient and our employees are engaged in helping us to reduce our environmental impact. This is demonstrated by our heightened ecological awareness and involvement with environmental initiatives globally throughout the Company. Below are our major environmental initiatives in Canada.
Project Green and GREENSHIFT
In 2009 Project Green was initiated by a group of dedicated Crawford employees to minimize Crawford’s impact on the environment and reduce corporate expenses by maximizing our resources. In its first year Project Green saved Crawford over $15,000 and completed 17 initiatives.
In 2012 the green team was rejuvenated as GREENSHIFT, with the goal of shifting the way Crawford and its employees think about sustainability. Its vision and mission are to create a healthy, sustainable environment and inspire environmental consciousness.
It is committed to the following:
• Championing an environmentally conscious corporate culture
• Leading by example
• Inspiring action
• Creating eco-friendly awareness
• Reducing Crawford’s carbon footprint
In 2013 Crawford became a Bronze Pledging Partner of the Regional Carbon Initiative, run by Sustainable Waterloo Region in Waterloo, Ontario. The initiative's mission is to advance the environmental sustainability of organizations across Waterloo Region through collaboration. As a Bronze Pledging Partner, Crawford has committed to reducing Green House Gas (GHG) emissions at Kitchener/Waterloo locations by 20 percent in the next 10 years.
Each year since 2009 our Kitchener/Waterloo branches have participated in a tree planting exercise in partnership with 10,000 Trees, an organization whose goal is to plant 10,000 trees in Waterloo, Ontario for 10 years.
Cortney Stroh and Ron Kirkland of our head office in Kitchener, Ontario plant a tree as part of the 10,000 Trees initiative.
